Development Update #2: 5 Reasons Why the Bookmark/Load Feature May Save Your Life

Updated: Jul 24

Hello Bookoorans, we're now into the penultimate stretch of getting our full version of The Cursed Stranger of Morlendar out.

Since we launched Bookoora.com, we've been busy marketing the site and letting people know what we do. Fret not, we're back in the thick of completing the inaugural book soon.

As a sneak peek, you can preview how our Bookmark (Save)/Load feature works in the full version. This feature is not available in the trial, so you cannot really "bookmark" your progress at the moment.

Here then are 5 reasons why the Bookmark/Load feature in a Bookoora book may save your life.

1. Before you face a difficult combat or encounter

The Cursed Stranger of Morlendar is no walk in the park for sure. Even internally, among playtesters, some of the combat can be quite a challenge to beat. It is also possible that you may be caught in a loop, where you end up repeating your paths trying to find a way out, but keep getting stuck, or staring up the same walls. This is why Bookmarking might be useful.

If you have no intention of restarting your progression from scratch after a fatal combat or encounter, you can always jump back to your last Bookmark to resume your adventure. Who knows, perhaps being wiser may yield treasures or rewards far greater than rushing into combat too soon.

2. When you're curious about what's on the other side

The Cursed Stranger of Morlendar has its fair share of branching paths, and some paths do lead the protagonist off the beaten track quite a bit. With Bookmarking, you may be curious as to what lies on the other path.

If you feel you may be better off trying that alternative path, you can always load a previous Bookmark and wager your chances on that alternative route instead. But be careful, sometimes changing your mind and turning back can be a far more regretable decision than just ploughing ahead, no matter how strenous or dangerous it is.

3. When you want to relive a pleasant experience

Let's assume you've arrived at an inn after a long and hardy adventure. You have heard many stories about this inn - how it attracts some of the most unscrupulous denizens this side of the Morlendarian breeze - and you'd expect great experiences and memories from your visit. By Bookmarking your save point right before you enter the inn or tavern, you can then return to the inn a second or third time, just to experiment or try different adventures or conversations with each visit.

This way, you won't miss a thing, or lose sleep over what you may have missed.

4. Bookmarking is centralized, you can continue your story anytime, anywhere

The best part about the Bookmark and Load feature is that it's centrally stored in the Cloud. In other words, if you're on the road, or you can't lug your laptop or desktop computer with you, you can continue your Bookoora book on your mobile device, right where you left off.

Just remember, to access any Bookoora book, you need to be connected to the Internet.

Better yet, as a Bookoora book is platform-agnostic (it's browser-based), you can access it from any device, be it Apple iOS or Google Android. It also works on Microsoft Bing/Edge, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and so on.

5. Bookmarking is a single-slot save, it makes you treasure your save points

As there is only one save slot for your Bookmark, you have to really think carefully before overwriting a prior Bookmark. Similarly, when you decide to Load a Bookmark, you need to be really sure you have no intention of saving your current progress.

Being judicious and efficient in how you Bookmark and Load a Bookmark will inform you to make really hard (and sometimes, character-defining) choices. Just remember, once you Bookmark, you can never go back (unless you restart from scratch of course).

So there you have it, some reasons why the Bookmark feature is an important feature of the full version of The Cursed Stranger of Morlendar, and all future Bookoora books.

We hope you enjoy this short read and look forward to bringing you more development updates on the inaugural book soon.
